Apartment Therapy Extras

Here are larger versions of the shots that appear on Apartment Therapy, along with some extras from that day. There wasn’t enough natural light to get photos of my original Beetlejuice poster or my prized embroidered frog shower curtain …

I bought this great kitchen knife holder the week I moved to Seattle.

I painted this Lichtenstein-esque Superman in 2005.

Not the best photo of Raleigh. I decorated my trunk with replicas of vintage travel stickers. The purple one says The Raleigh Hotel.

Mason’s fur is tough to get off the chairs, but I have to admit he looks good up there.

My grandpa carved that duck by hand. My grandma gave it to me when he died. I’ve had it since I was 11 — longer than anything else I own.

That’s my grandma’s handwriting on that picture of me. It was originally on the back, but I scanned both sides and applied it to the front of a reprint.

I commissioned this Autumn Whitehurst illustration in 2006, for a Las Vegas Weekly cover.

My Pulp Fiction poster is in a frame that lights up.

I made these Beatles portraits out of LEGOs in 2002.

This is my take on a Tom Everhart of a Charles Schulz. I started this Charlie Brown and Snoopy painting in 2007 and finished it in 2008.

My nephew Trevor gave me this vintage Jabba the Hutt toy.

My niece Ravenne drew those rainbows for me when I visited her in Las Vegas in July.

  1. Awesome stuff, got here from AT and totally love your quirky lil’ pieces mixed with vintage-ish pieces.

      Thanks, Miss Stovetop!

Very Unseemly — mine’s called “The Ex” as well. I’ve seen it in red, white, black and silver, but still haven’t seen the green one (I’ve heard about it, though).

Alison — do you mind soup templates that say “Benjamen’s”?

Venaessa — thanks for the camera keychain!

Tom — that’s an Ikea LACK wall shelf unit that I got for $39.99. That’s less than what I paid for the “Welcome Back, Kotter” lunch box!

I have the same knife holder, marketed as “The Ex” here in Toronto, only in green! I Love it, even though I’ve been happily married for 22 years!
My kids are Lego-maniacs, so I can imagine what kind of effort went into your Beatles art. Spectacular!
Wow!! What a great tour ~ thanks for sharing!

  3. LOVE your art and all the details in your space 🙂 and of course, Raleigh and Mason steal the show! Hey, I had no idea when we visited last month that you had painted your own art… impressive!!! can I commission you? I need something really cool for my office. LOL!

  4. Tom says:

Where did you buy that shelving unit you use for the lunchboxes?

This is awesome Ben! Last year I was asked to do “scouting shots” for Design Sponge, but they rejected me:
